Tad Smith

CEO

Tad Smith is Chief Executive Officer of Reed Business Information U.S. (RBI-US), the New York City-based division of Reed Elsevier Group plc. RBI-US is a leading business information company in North America. Among its publications and websites are leading franchises including Variety, Publishers Weekly, Interior Design, Furniture Today, Broadcasting & Cable, Restaurants & Institutions, and EDN. RBI-US is also a leading provider of Internet lead generation through BuyerZone, subscription data and software tools through Reed Construction Data and RS Means, and market research through MarketCast and In-Stat.

Tad is Adjunct Professor at the Stern School of Business at New York University, where he has taught the highly rated corporate finance and strategy course on entertainment, media, and technology companies since 1999.

His prior employers include Starwood Hotels and Resorts, BMG Entertainment, and McKinsey & Company, Inc. Tad serves on the boards of American Business Media, the Online Publishers Association, the Business Press Educational Foundation, and the Interactive Advertising Bureau. He is also a Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum and a member of the Young President’s Organization.

Tad received his MBA from Harvard University, where he was a George F. Baker Scholar and a Horace W. Goldsmith Fellow. He received his BA from Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, where he received the R.W. van de Velde Prize. In 2007 and 2008, Tad also served on the Dean’s Leadership Council of the Woodrow Wilson School.

Tad won Folio’s Executive of the Year in 2008, min’s Top Executive of the Year in 2007, and Media Business’ Top Innovator in 2007. He was also inducted into the Digital Media Hall of Fame in 2006.
