Mark Wilmshurst, RBI Chief Technology Officer, has become RELX Group’s sixth Distinguished Technologist. This is the company’s way of recognising and honouring stand-out technologists who have fundamentally changed the way RELX does business and who have shown exemplary technology leadership over time.
Mark joined Reed Business Information in 2006 as Enterprise Architect taking responsibility for the application portfolio across the division.
In 2009 he was promoted to Chief Technology Officer in the UK, leading product development for a number of key brands and has been Global CTO since 2013.
Mark has been instrumental in bringing about the transformation of the business by virtue of his architectural leadership in driving re-platforming activities, M&A activities and day-to-day operational oversight that has helped drive business growth. Over the past two years, he has also taken on a broader architectural role across RELX Group, by leading a community of best practice that defines sensible standards that will improve our effectiveness via better knowledge-sharing.
In addition, he was recognised for his strong technical skills and commercial focus which have created clear product roadmaps and he has worked beyond the technology organisation to show product management teams the ‘art of the possible’; leading to innovations in several areas of the business.
Mark has also actively participated in the upskilling of technology talent, running learning sessions and acting as a mentor to many architects.
For all these reasons, and more, RELX felt that he was a deserving winner of the 2018 Distinguished Technologist award.
The selection process for this award is rigorous. Becoming a RELX Group Distinguished Technologist is a prestigious and high-profile recognition, and one that all the organisation’s technologists can aspire to achieve.
